About Adisa Vera Beatty
Adisa Vera Beatty is a poet by birth but loves everything about the word. Her poetry has appeared in Callaloo, American Poetry review, Spelman College’s online journal L-I-N-K-E-D and other periodicals. Adisa was a founding teacher for two New Visions/NYC High Schools, has worked on support campaigns for several political prisoners and recently served as a Teachers For Africa volunteer in Ethiopia working at the country’s first international university. Currently, she is a contributing writer for Mosaic Literary Journal and is polishing a manuscript of essays. When she’s not writing about culture for Centric she can be seen and heard representing Brooklyn (specifically Crown Heights) harder than Bon Ton Chips and gold shrimp earrings in the 80’s.
