M-O-N-E-Y never did a thing for L-O-V-I-N.
Your Boo won’t approve of using the recession as an excuse this Valentine’s Day—and you shouldn’t either. One doesn’t have to go for broke to celebrate and show love. Short on ideas? Don’t fret. We’ve got the Top Five Inexpensive Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas that are sure to bring HUGE returns on your small investment.
1. Stay In and Cook: Become the personal chef for your Valentine by whipping up their favorite foods. Set the table and the atmosphere (soft music and mood lighting) to incite easy conversation and romantic reflection. If you aren’t the culinary type—enlist help from a friend or relative.
Investment: Varies
Return: Whether dessert is had in the dining room or bedroom is a personal choice
2. Write a Love Note: While a Mahogany Hallmark Valentine’s Day card can be romantic its rather generic. Grab a pen and paper and write out your feelings. Say I love you in a poem, in a letter or on little post it notes you scatter around the house.
Investment: Free-$4.00
Return: A “stroke of the pen” could have dual meaning
3. Make and Give “Special” Coupons: Let’s face it, store bought gift certificates are “easy” but can be expensive (if they are to be effective). Try making little coupons—out of index cards— that your honey can redeem in exchange for a “service.” Pamper your lover with a Back Massage after work, or Get out of doing laundry for a month, or Day of Alone Time. Not into arts and crafts, there are websites offer free customizable love coupons for download and print.
Investment: Free-$5.00
Return: If no restrictions on the coupons apply, no restrictions on other things should apply.

4. Picnic in the Park: There is something so classic about a daytime picnic in the park. Take it up a notch by doing it at sunset. Grab a bottle of wine, a blanket and pick your honey up from work and head to a great area park or even the beach if that’s an option. Focus on sharing feelings and relationship goal setting.
Investment: $6.00-15.00
Return: The picnic blanket won’t be the only thing getting laid out.
5. Make a Mix CD: Music is the universal language of love. A Layla Hathaway or Isley Brothers song might best express how you feel. Make a mix cd of your favorite love tunes and gift it.
Investment: $0-3.00
Return: You might be the one hitting a few high notes.
