SCENE & HEARD// Gabrielle Union Creates Production Company
Published by Adisa Vera Beatty on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:10 am.Actress/model Gabrielle Union (Bring It On, Bad Boys II, Daddy’s Little Girls, Neutrogena Spokesmodel) and award winning video director with the most-est Nzinga Stewart (she’s directed videos for the likes of Bilal, Common, 50 Cent, Eve, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot etc.) have teamed up and created Stew U Production Company.
Between Union and Stewart (pictured after the break) they’ve got “in front and behind the camera” covered so their production company should be a huge success in giving Black Women more exposure in the film industry as well as creating projects that interest us. Stewart told atlantapost.com that they created Stew U because, “We want to do movies and television for Black Women that’s profitable and show studios a model that works.”
Meanwhile Gabrielle Union who has been acting since she was a teen discussed with blackstarnews.com what she believes it will take for Blacks to have a say in the creation of our own images. “If we want our stories told in the way we feel that they should be told, we need to take a more proactive role in getting these projects on their feet and in making them come to life. We don’t need to wait around for anybody to hand us anything. We just have to get out there and hustle.”
Most recently Union and Stewart collaborated on the Lifetime Movie, The Vow based on the bestselling novel written by Essence Magazine editors, Mitzi Miller, Angela Burt-Murray and writer Denene Millner. Union stars in the movie and is executive producer along with Tracey Edmonds while Stewart is flexing as both writer and director.
