This week, Grammy Award nominated artist Melanie Fiona confirmed with Sound Savvy that she’s currently working on her Sophmore album, “The MF Life.” The Canadian born singer will take a new direction for her music this time around saying, “It’s not as much retro…but it’s got a very live sound with kind of like a Rock and Soul kind of thing. But it’s not Rock and Soul. It’s stadium Soul!” What is “stadium soul” you say? “Like if you had an amazing drummer, keyboard player, guitar player and they just rocked out in an empty arena.” Fiona recently wrapped up a session with John Legend for his project, but hopes to do another for hers. She also has hopes to collaborate with B.O.B, Lupe Fiasco and Janelle Monae. “I’ve grown a lot. I’ve seen a lot. I feel stronger. I feel better now. I want to have a very fun perspective on this album.
Her 2009 debut album, “The Bridge,” charted in seven different countries and sold over 250k in the US with the hit “It Kills Me.” A year later Melanie Fiona is continuing that project’s momentum and scheduling a North American tour later this year.
