BEHIND THE GROOVE// QUINCY JONES CELEBRATES LEGACY WITH NEW ALBUM
Published by on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 7:45 am.Seven years in the making Soul Bossa Nostra finds Quincy Jones as Executive Producer to a bevy of today’s well-known recording artists rework material from Jones’ extensive catalog. Soul Bossa Nostra features appearances by Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Akon, Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Talib Kweli, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, John Legend, Snoop Dogg and Wyclef Jean for starters. Each featured artist selected the song that resonated for them personally. The first single is Akon’s cover of “Strawberry Letter 23”, the 1977 Brother’s Johnson classic. From the 1996 “Q’s Jook Joint”disc, the quiet storm staple “You Put a Move on My Heart” will get a thorough reworking courtesy of Jennifer Hudson. The 1962 track Soul Bossa Nova has seen its fair share of attention when the The Dream Warriors sampled it on “My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style”, Ludacris on “Number One Spot” and as the “Austin Powers” theme. www.quincyjones.com—Monica Williamson
