Maxwell may not be delivering new product in 2010 and Matthew Knowles has pretty much declared a Destiny’s Child reunion DOA, but the internet is abuzz with news reports of fresh products from a bevy of beloved R&B stars we’ve missed. Kem, Tank, Case, Dwele, Dru Hill, Jill Scott, Keith Sweat, Jennifer Hudson, and Anthony David are just a few highlights slated for 2010 releases. This slate of super talents bodes well for the urban music industry, just in time for Black Music Month. Truth be told, R&B has been on a commercial upswing for the last two years, with Sade, Maxwell, Beyonce, The Black Eye Peas, Michael Jackson and Jamie Foxx all representing with product that was among the lone 12 albums to hit platinum in 2009. That means at least half of the million sellers last year were by Black artists. Usher and Alicia Keys are already making sure urban music is on track for another platinum-licious year. Happy Black Music Month!
