When Jill Scott’s single ”Gettin’ In The Way” hit the radio waves in 2000, it helped usher in a new movement of R&B and soul music. The Philly songstress’ possessed (and still possesses) a musicality that was not on the radio at the time, thus putting her in a class all her own. Her debut album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, went on to sell over two million copies worldwide.
After two studio albums (2004’s Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 and 2007’s The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3), two live albums (2001’s “Experience: Jill Scott 826+“ and 2008’s “Live In Paris+”) and a few acting stints—she starred in Tyler Perry’s 2007 film “Why Did I Get Married” and its 2010 sequel “Why Did I Get Married Too”—now she’s back to business with her upcoming album “The Light Of The Sun” (out June 21).
Centric’s “As Written” is going behind the grooves and the lyrics to showcase what this album really means for Jill and what it will mean for her fans.
