The puff-haired tower of power has been wowing NYC and ATL audiences for years, but now it’s time for the Big Apple and Hotlanta to share Kimberly ‘Nichole with the rest of the world. The Seattle native is easing listeners on down her Yellow Brick Journey to an Oz of gold and platinum riches to come. Sporting the range and flavor of a twangy Jazmine Sullivan, the Spelman alum plays on an edgier side of the R&B the fence with rock, punk, and hip hop soul sounds that wouldn’t be out of place on a Beyonce, Janelle Monae or a Monica Blair project. This self-professed leader of the “Young Soul Movemnt” first appeared on “Can’t Get Enough” from the ATL underdogs rare double-EP, Dain Harris and Brandon A. Thomas’s For The Moment-A Soul Acoustic and has opened for artists like Dwele, Bilal, and Darien Brockington. With eclectic songs like the epic “Wishes In The Dark,” the hand-clapping “Little Girl New” and the kaleidoscopic “Carnival,” this progressive soul sister won’t be an opening act for long. Kimberly you’re certainly not in Seattle anymore.
