RETRO CENTRIC// Destiny’s Child “No, No, No (Part 1)”

Published by jdwayne on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:54 am.

When Destiny’s Child’s “No, No, No” hit the radio in 1997, few could deny it’s infectious chorus (who doesn’t love the effective use of repetition?). Produced by Vincent Herbert (yes, that’s Tamar Braxton’s husband), Rob Fusari and Wyclef Jean; the song reached number one on the Billboard R&B charts—giving the girls the first of their 11 top ten R&B hits. A remix—which became more popular than the original—dubbed as “Part 2,” featured Wyclef Jean, and a 15 year old Beyonce flexing a sped up vocal delivery that would later become her signature style.

While we all know how things turned out for the girls, the original line-up—Kelly Rowland, Latavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett, and Beyonce—is and will always be the BEST line-up (no disrespect to Michelle Williams…oh, and Farrah Franklin).

Because we love a good slow jam here at Centric, we opted to go with part one of the song…

The perfect Christmas CD can be the warmth you need to heat up on a cold day, whether with family or a special someone. Check out our picks for the Top 5 Contemporary R&B Christmas Albums that you must have:

1. “Snowflakes”- Toni Braxton
Regardless of her financial woes, Toni Braxton can sing. Lil Jon—the King of Crunk—is showing his age, with this remix of Beyonce’s Babyface penned tune, “Best Thing I Never Had”. The new track, which also features production from DJ Kontrol, places Bey’s vocals over the instrumental of The Gap Band’s 1982 R&B hit, “Outstanding”.

IN PICTURES// Behind The Scenes: Beyonce Shoots Video For “Party”

Published by jdwayne on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 9:42 am.

If you are one of the 491,000 people who have purchased Beyonce’s latest album, 4, chances are the Kanye West produced “Party” featuring Outkast’s Andre 3000 is one of your favorites. Well, it seems King B has taken heed to the popularity of the track and has shot a video for it.

Shot in what seems to be a trailer park, the video features her sister Solange Knowles—rocking some Janet Jackson a la Poetic Justice braids—and a slew of club kids and blipsters (translation: black hipsters).

While we envisioned the video going in a totally different direction, we can’t wait to see the final product.

Oh, and rumor has it she is also working on a video for, “Countdown”, directed by Adria Petty, who helmed the video for “Sweet Dreams”.
