EVENT RECAP// Word Revolution: A Celebration Of The Evolution Of Hip-Hop

Published by admin on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 5:18 pm.

Lady Gaga’s arrival in a pod. An all-star tribute to Aretha Franklin. Cee-Lo and Gwyneth Paltrow performing “F*ck You” alongside Muppets—all great moments that made the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards a standout show. But it was the pre-Grammy events that had the biggest impact. Most notably, “Word Revolution: A Celebration Of The Evolution Of Hip-Hop.” Sponsored by The Grammy Foundation and Centric, the event held at L.A.’s Wilshire Ebell Theater, showcased the talent of hip-hop stars past and present, off set by video that focused on the genre’s rise and connection to jazz, blues and other musical styles.

The ceremony kicked off with spins from the legendary DJ Kid Capri and Seattle based DJ Skee, who mixed classic tunes from the East and West Coasts respectively. There moment on the turntables built the hype for the all female dance troupe The Beat Freaks, and popular 90’s rap group, Naughty By Nature—who’s popular hits “OPP,” and “Hip-Hop Hooray” still can get a party started. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT//Rick Ross and Swizz Beatz “The Transporter”

Published by DYoung on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 1:56 pm.

Kanye West has Good Fridays and Swizz Beatz has Monster Mondays (not to worry, Kanye approves). Over the past few months Swizz has released tracks with  Eve, Jadakiss, Estelle, Busta Rhymes and even his wife, Alicia Keys.

This past Monday, Swizz released “The Transporter” featuring Rick Ross. The track has a smooth, almost soulful groove to it; which is very different from the usual in-your-face beats that Swizz creates. There’s just something about the Teflon Don’s throaty tone that just does it for me. What do you think of Swizz Beatz and Ricky Rozay’s masterpiece?

Ross is about halfway done with his new album, “God Forgives, I Don’t,” so the waiting continues.

Vote for Ross’ ”Aston Martin Music”  featuring Drake and Chrisette Michele   on Centric’s 20 to 1 Countdown.

BEHIND THE GROOVE// Rick Ross Jacked Young Money’s Cory Gunz’ Album Title

Published by DYoung on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 12:59 pm.

After releasing his latest single, “Made Men” featuring Drake, Rick Ross also decided to leak the name of his new album: God Forgives, I Don’t. Quite the title, but there’s just one thing, it’s not original. Apparently, the “Aston Martin Music” rapper took his album title from Young Money artist Cory Gunz (pictured left).

The son of New York rapper Peter Gunz, the young emcee said in an interview that he’d chosen the title three years ago and has the T-shirts, songs, studio sessions and invoices to prove it. Gunz is a little bit frustrated in having to revamp his album, but there’s no hard feelings towards Ross for jacking his title.

Vote for Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” featuring Drake and Chrisette Michele only on Centric.

HIT OR MISS// Rick Ross Feat. Drake “Made Men”

Published by jdwayne on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 12:43 pm.

The self-proclaimed Teflon Don and the new face of Diddy’s Sean John label Rick Ross, has teamed up with Drake again. The last time we heard the duo collaborate was on the chart topping “Aston Martin Music” alongside Chrisette Michele. While this song is not as smooth as its predecessor, it definitely will make heads bob. But what say you? HIT or MISS.

A newly dyed platinum-blond haired Chrisette Michele hit the stage at George Lopez’s LOPEZ TONIGHT to perform her new single, “Goodbye Game.” Accompanied by a full band, tutu-clad dancers and two turban-wearing background singers (the handy work of her stylist June Ambrose), the songstress’ set was definitely soul stirring.
