BEHIND THE GROOVE//Jamie Foxx Hosts “Best Night Of My Life” Listening Session

Published by Jeremy on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 1:42 pm.

Somewhere in between flirting with the ladies and talking about why he doesn’t want to be married, Actor and R&B recording star Jamie Foxx talked about the release of his brand new album Best Night Of My Life.

Centric caught up with the Academy and Grammy Award winning entertainer for a private album playback session at the Samsung Experience in NYC’s illustrious Time Warner Building. The celebration was put together by our Digiwaxx Media family, J Records, Samsung and was hosted by Power 105’s favorite morning crew, The Breakfast Club.

While champagne and cocktails flowed throughout, Foxx opened up the the session with some music from the album while flat screens were playing his numerous music videos. Some of the tracks including “Hit It Like This,” “Living Better Now” feat. Rick Ross and “Fall For Your Type” feat. Drake; eluded to a different sound than we’re used to hearing. When asked if he liked music or acting more, the multi-talented personality revealed his passions were heavy for both.

The highlight of the night was a surprising visit from the legendary El Debarge, who ended up jamming with Foxx to some of his greatest hits. To seal the deal on the night the two danced their ways into the crowd while “Blame It” shook the entire building. Don’t forget to head to the stores for Best Night Of My Life and let us know what you think!

SOULSESSIONS MUSIC// Quincy Jones and Amy Winehouse “It’s My Party”

Published by Sidik on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10:39 am.

“It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to,” Amy Winehouse soulfully slurs in a remake of Lesley Gore’s 1963 hit. But, is her drawl the product of creative spin or the side effect of her semi-synthetic highs? Either way, the re-interpretation produced by Mark Ronson and off Quncy Jones’s forthcoming album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra shimmers with a fresh take on the era.

Look out for Quincy Jones’s Q: Soul Bossa Nostra featuring Akon, Jamie Foxx, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and others on November 9th.

Published by Jeremy on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11:41 am.

Riding the wave of his recent hit with Rick Ross, “Living Better Now,” R&B singer Jamie Foxx wastes no time introducing his latest, “Fall For Your Type.” If the track sounds slightly familiar, you may have heard an earlier leaked version featuring just the voice of Drake. Premiered by NYC’s DJ Envy on Power 105, the track marks the pairs first collaboration since the 2009 hit “Digital Girl.”

BEHIND THE GROOVE// Q and Winehouse Collaborate

Published by MamaSoul on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 4:51 am.

How delicious – ‘Q’ and Amy Winehouse are collaborating.  Quincy Jones is one of the coolest cats on the planet. He’s a connector between decades of musical movements and artists.  Undoubtedly he could rest on his laurels, but no, he’s reintroducing and reinvigorating his catalog to the masses by teaming up with chart-toppers of today.  Keep your ears out for Amy Winehouse’s cover of Jones’ “It’s My Party” featured on “Q: Soul Bossa Nosta” the record from Quincy Jones slated for release in November. “It’s My Party” as sung by Lesley Gore was first released in 1963 became a major pop hit.

Now four decades later this remake will also mark the return of Miss Winehouse—whose been M.I.A for four years. As mentioned in previous posts “Q: Soul Bossa Nostra” will feature popular on the scene today like Akon, Usher, Ludacris, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, T-Pain, Robin Thicke, LL Cool J, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Three 6 Mafia, David Banner, Bebe Winans, Mervyn Warren, Jermaine Dupri.

Jamie Foxx is going back to his comedic roots. The award-winning singer/actor is cooking up a new sketch-comedy series called “The Jamie Foxx Project” which will air on FOX. Much like “In Living Color”—the Keenan Ivory Wayans produced show that helped launch Foxx’s career—the show will feature pop culture spoofs and skits as well as regular appearances from today’s top funny men and women. Comedian Affion Crockett, a cast member of Nick Canon’s “Wild ‘N Out”, has signed on to co-star and co-produce the series. FOX has not yet announced a date for the show’s premiere.

BEHIND THE GROOVE// Jennifer Hudson on VH1’s Behind The Music

Published by Jeremy on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12:28 pm.

If you’re a big fan of VH1’s popular Behind The Music series then you don’t want to miss the upcoming feature on R&B diva and actress Jennifer Hudson. With a beautiful new baby and a gorgeously transformed figure to match, the future bride-to-be sits down with VH1 and sheds some light on her rise to fame.

From her American Idol beginnings to her Oscar-winning breakout role in Dreamgirls, the superstar touches on several subjects, including how much she’s been enjoying being a mother. “Being a mother reminds me of my mom,” Hudson says. “In so many ways I channel her.” The thriving star even touched on going back to her roots to push forward on Idol. ““It felt like being in a bubble. Because you go on the show, and you really don’t get to go outside of the “Idol” world,” Hudson comments. “To me that was the toughest part, but where I come from, as my grandmother would say, ‘Stand flat footed and sing.’ And just sing to the top of your lungs.”

Behind the Music: Jennifer Hudson airs June 28th 9PM EST.

SOUND OFF// DRAKE ‘THANK ME LATER’

Published by admin on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 12:27 pm.

You’d have to live under a rock if you haven’t heard of Drake (né Aubrey Graham). At 23 years old, he’s already a Grammy nominated rapper and singer-songwriter who’s worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Trey Songz, and Timbaland, among many others. The Young Money crew member’s mellow beats and honest lyrics have made him somewhat of a crossover artist: while his young style and swagger make him massively appealing in the hip-hop world as a rapper as seen in tracks like “Over”, he’s also an effective singer that isn’t afraid to sing about love, the loss of it, and the emotions in between on songs such as “Find Your Love” (video below). The album is out NOW , and we want to know if you think his first official album lived up to the hype? . —Terron R. Moore

BEHIND THE GROOVE// QUINCY JONES CELEBRATES LEGACY WITH NEW ALBUM

Published by admin on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 7:45 am.

Seven years in the making Soul Bossa Nostra finds Quincy Jones as Executive Producer to a bevy of today’s well-known recording artists rework material from Jones’ extensive catalog.  Soul Bossa Nostra features appearances by Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Akon, Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Talib Kweli, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, John Legend, Snoop Dogg and Wyclef Jean for starters. Each featured artist selected the song that resonated for them personally.  The first single is Akon’s cover of “Strawberry Letter 23”, the 1977 Brother’s Johnson classic. From the 1996 “Q’s Jook Joint”disc, the quiet storm staple “You Put a Move on My Heart” will get a thorough reworking courtesy of Jennifer Hudson. The 1962 track Soul Bossa Nova has seen its fair share of attention when the The Dream Warriors sampled it on “My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style”, Ludacris on “Number One Spot” and as the “Austin Powers” theme. www.quincyjones.com—Monica Williamson
