The wait for Melanie Fiona’s sophomore album, The MF Life, has been a long one, riddled with a slew of delays…and more delays. The Canadian R&B songstress’ latest single, “Wrong Side Of a Love Song,” premiered on Sirius XM’s The Heat, and it has all the Motown inspired soul that you could ask for.
New Orleans native Luke James is garnering a serious buzz amongst music industry insiders. While many R&B singers rely on gimmicks and amazing producers to elevate questionable (read: non-existent) vocals, James doesn’t have to. Why? Because the boy can sing (sang that is)—and write.
While his name hasn’t reached household status just yet, he’s written music for the likes of Chris Brown (“Crawl”), Justin Bieber (“That Should Be Me”), and Britney Spears (“Kill The Lights”). Not to mention his fit physique and model-mug even landed him features in Beyonce’s “Run The World” and Melanie Fiona’s “4am” videos. But, now he’s the star of the show.
James just released the video for “I Want You,” his debut single, off his upcoming debut album, due in 2012.
Last year, Melanie Fiona walked away with the Soul Train Award for Best New Artist, so she obviously knows what it takes to win. The “4am” singer dishes on this year’s nominees—Miguel, Frank Ocean, Marsha Ambrosius, and Bruno Mars. Who do you think should win?

(Atlanta, GA) Centric teamed up with The Grammy Foundation to host an entertainment industry panel at local Therrell High School. Moderated by Centric’s The Hot 10 countdown’s Chuck Nice, the panel consisted of a who’s who of notables of the music business including, singers Melanie Fiona and Bobby V; artist management executive, Shaka Zulu; and Executive V.P. of Centric, Paxton Baker.
The panel was created to inform students of the many career paths within the entertainment industry—performance, artist management, production, and radio.
This is just one of the few events being held by Centric, as it gears up for the Soul Train Awards 2011 taping at the Fox Theater on November 17.

Added to the award show’s impressive roster of performers are Common, Cee-Lo Green, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, Tamar Braxton, Joe, Keith Sweat, Stokely of Mint Condition and Freddie Jackson—all of whom join previously announced acts, Jill Scott, Melanie Fiona, Anthony Hamilton, and The Original 7ven (the band formerly known as The Time).
Amber Rose, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Lance Gross, Shaunie O’Neal, DJ Just Blaze, Questlove of The Roots–who is devising an modern “Soul Train” theme song—are slated to serve as presenters.
Hosted by comedian Cedric the Entertainer, this year’s show will honor the careers of Earth Wind & Fire and the “Empress of Soul”, Gladys Knight.
Soul Train Awards 2011 will premiere in simulcast on CENTRIC and BET on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 9pm/8c.

The 2011 Soul Train Awards will get a grand opening courtesy of pop-funk group The Original 7ven. Formerly known as “The Time”, this performance will mark their first time performing together in three years—they were last seen at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards back in 2008.
Hosted by funnyman Cedric the Entertainer, this year’s show will also include performances from Jill Scott, Mindless Behavior, Keith Sweat, Robin Thicke, Melanie Fiona, Grammy-award winning artist Natalie Cole—and a slew of other acts soon to be confirmed.
The 2011 Soul Train Awards will premiere on BET and CENTRIC on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 9:00 PM.
Up-and-coming R&B singer Luke James has dropped “The Answer”, the emotionally charged follow-up to his virally buzzed about track “I Want You.” The singer/songwriter, who can be seen in Melanie Fiona’s new video “4AM”, is prepping his EP tentatively titled, #luke.

Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, this year’s festivities honored Pastor Shirley Ceasar, Tatyana Ali, Taraji P. Henson, Angela Davis, WNBA’s Laurel J. Richie, and women’s rights activists Imani Walker and Malika Saada Saar.
Founded by DJ Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock! is a movement established to empower young Black girls by celebrating the accomplishments of leading Black women from all over the world.
