TOP TEN MOMENTS AT THE 10TH ANNUAL BET AWARDS 2010
Published by Justin Joseph on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:57 am.The 10th anniversary of the BET Awards was jammed packed with great moments that will have us talking for weeks—or at least until the show re-airs. We here at Centric countdown OUR top ten most memorable moments from last night’s festivities. See if any of your favorites made our list:
10. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats Kissing Publicly.
The couple, who’s union has been the fodder for many gossip blogs, was the picture of perfection. Upon Alicia’s win for Best Female R&B Artist, the obviously pregnant singer shared a kiss with her super producer fiance. Seems like a match made in musical heaven.
9. Nicki Minaj’s wig changes and her message to females to uplift and support (TIE).
If one ever wonders where Minaj’s money goes, it probably would be a solid guess that a large amount goes to the Young Money rappers arsenal of sno-cone colored weaves and wigs. We counted four wig changes in a two hour telecast. Thats serious head game. On a serious note: The Queens,NY native hinted at the bubbling beef from Lil’ Kim. For Minaj its all love and respect.
8. Patti Labelle Performs “Purple Rain”
The Christian Louboutin pumps were flying as Labelle paid tribute to Prince. The 66 year old was in prime form as she serneded the honoree with a moving rendition of the 80’s classic.
7. “Love Jones” reunion
Nia Long and Larenz Tate conjured up cinematic memories, as the two recited poems from 1997’s black cinema favorite, LOVE JONES. Call it acting, but the chemistry between these two actors playing lovers Nina and Darius, was as hot as it was over 13 years ago. *finger snaps*
6. El Debarge Performing Debarge Hits Medley
The 80’s R&B star brought “light-skinned and wavy back” according to Actor/Comedian Anthony Anderson, and we can’t disagree. The youthful looking Debarge performed hits from the Debarge family catalog and was seemingly on-fire. Jumping off the stage, shaking hands in the crowd, doing that classic El jig—it was all bliss. All that was missing was the family: Bunny, Randy, Mark and James.
5. Haiti Tribute Performance of “Are You Listening”
With Kirk Franklin on piano and Yolanda Adams, Kim Burell, Marvin Sapp and Karen Clark-Sheard on vocals; “Are You Listening” lifted spirits throughout the venue and brought on-lookers to their feet.
4. DJ Khaled finale performance
The Miami-based DJ brought a bevy of rappers (Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, P. Diddy, Ludacris, Nicki Minaj etc.) on stage in a finale performance that had everyone’s hands up
3. Prince recieveing Lifetime Achievement Award
“I will never forget this night for as long as I live” said the The Purple One who was presented the award show’s highest honor. After the all-female tribute from Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Alicia Keys and Patti Labelle; Prince was visibly moved as the crowd stood in ovation as he took the stage.
2. Alicia Keys performing Prince’s “Adore”
Alicia Keys—baby bump and all—performed Prince’s “Adore” from the 1987 Sign o’ the Times album…and she was a very fertile Keys oozed sensuality as she climbed atop the piano. Maybe she was singing to Swizz?
1. Chris Brown’s Michael Jackson Tribute
