Trombone Shorty: Bouncin’ New Orleans Back
Published by L. Michael Gipson on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:05 am.He’s already a legend in his hometown of New Orleans, but with Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews’ forthcoming album “Backatown” (Verve Forecast) dropping April 20th he’s aiming for world domination. The 24 year old has already convinced esteemed artists like Lenny Kravitz (with whom Shorty toured), Allen Touissant, and Marc Broussard that he’s the truth, as all are featured on the fourteen-track Ben Ellman (Galactic) produced project. Written or co-written by Shorty, the forthcoming album explosively blends funk, rock, R&B and hip hop in what Shorty calls “Supafunkrock.” It’s not all contemporary, some of these sounds will catapults you to the blended African, Latin, and Creole rhythms of Congo Square and the magnolia mystique of New Orleans’ French Quarter.
