The singer/songwriter/producer lists among her influences her gospel-singing mother, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Withers, Jill Scott, Amel Larrieux and Mary J. Blige – a list as varied as her own experiences. She began as a pianist and saxophonist as a child in her native South Carolina, wandering into singing as a teen. After four years in college at Howard University, singing background throughout the high-octane D.C. go-go music scene, Collette was finally ready to expose the world to her unique brand of storytelling.
