ALOE BLACC HEATS UP MIAMI’S ART BASEL

Centric Selects’ artist Aloe Blacc hit up Miami this week for a performance at a special SVEDKA Vodka Session, presented by Giant Step. The event went down during this past weekend’s Art Basel.  Blacc and his band Grand Scheme opened the show with ‘Hey There Brother’ from his latest album ’Good Things’. The California-bred soulful crooner performed covers by Velvet Underground, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Hall & Oats, and Green Day. The highlight of the night was of course his performance of ‘I Need a Dollar.’ Check out these photos below:

CENTRIC SELECTS// Aloe Blacc Talks Music and His Rising Profile in the Industry

 Aloe Blacc’s hot streak continues. His hit “I Need A Dollar” set the summer—-and HBO’s How To Make It In America—on fire.  The singer/rapper and musician’s sophomore album “Good Things” (released in September) has been heating up the charts. Combining elements of soul, jazz, blues and hip-hop; Blacc has managed to gain a following stateside and throughout Europe—not to mention he’s a constant fixture on Centric’s 20 to 1 Countdown and the newly selected Centric Selects artist.

Centrictv.com’s Manushka caught up with Blacc to talk about the new album, his rising profile in the industry and the inspiration behind his album. Check out part two of the interview.

Newly named Centric Selects artist Aloe Blacc recently wrapped up his European tour with his band, The Grand Scheme. As a thank you to all of those that attended his shows, Aloe and Carhartt shared a track from Carhatt’s CD compilation. “The Dark End Of The Street”, originally performed by James Carr, is also the title track of the album and features the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, Paul White and DâM-FunK.

The North American leg of Aloe’s tour recently kicked off on the beginning of this month an continues through early December. – Jonathan Crisp

Recently released, the third and final video from July’s free concert featuring Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble in Los Angeles, CA. This installment features a performance by SubCentric Spotlight artist Aloe Blacc, backed by Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave on drums and Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner on bass. Blacc and team pay homage to late Gang Starr MC Keith ‘Guru’ Elam, performing an arrangement of Gang Starr’s “Betrayal”. Previous videos released featured Bilal and Flying Lotus.

After staging a successful free concert in Los Angeles last month, The Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble is releasing a cover of the Donny Hathaway classic “Someday We’ll all Be Free” featuring Bilal. The song was performed at the star-studded event held at Grand Performances California Plaza on July 23rd that featured appearances from Flying Lotus, Aloe Blacc, Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner, and Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave.

His song “I Need A Dollar” is the theme song for HBO’s How To Make It In America starring Kid Cudi, he hosts the Do-Over, LA’s hottest summertime Sunday afternoon party, he is gearing up for the release of his sophomore album on Stones Throw, and he has been a fixture on our 20 to 1 Countdown. Blacc recently took part in Downtown Unplugged, a new live music showcase taking place in the evolving landscape of downtown Los Angeles.

After a rousing performance Aloe sat down to talk about his definition of soul music, his influences, and his social responsibility as an artist.
